Description: Hemolacria, also known as haemodacrya, is an extremely rare clinical condition characterized by the presence of blood in the tears, which may be partially or entirely composed of red blood cells. This phenomenon, whose etiology is complex and only partially understood, can be associated with systemic diseases, vascular disorders, local infections, ocular trauma, or even hormonal imbalances, such as those observed in some women during their menstrual cycles. Reported cases are very rare, although the exact prevalence remains uncertain due to a lack of specialized literature and precise documentation. This rarity presents challenges in understanding the underlying mechanisms of hemolacria and in developing suitable treatments.
